Nancy on Fox News on 8-16-10 talking about Obama losing independent support

By Sharon, 20 August, 2010, No Comment

Nancy goes on “America Live” with subbing host, Shannon Bream to discuss why President Obama is losing support from independents. She also weighs in on Ed Gillespie’s comment that the president holds disdain for the American people.

On the Independent voters: The generic party preference is a whole different deal than the specific congressional candidates. The party in power always loses seats in the first election and the slow recovery will magnify that but the question of whether Democrats will lose control will come down to individual races and candidates.

And Democrats have not done as badly as predicted. In the Michigan gubernatorial primaries, for instance, the liberal Democrat beat the conservative one, and the most moderate of 5 GOP candidates won. Harry Reid is beating Sharron Angle, Joe Sestak beat conservative Democrat Arlen Spector. So Nancy doesn’t see a bloodbath in November.

On Obama’s Disdain: Gillespie made his remarks because of Obama’s comments supporting the constitutional rights of the Muslims to be build a Mosque at ground zero. Gillepsie must have “disdain for the constitution” if he is saying that legal rights be damned of the minorities. The constitution clearly protects religious freedom. The tea party is all about the constitution. You can’t pick and choose what you support. And for Democrats who want to play fast and loose because they are worried about voter backlash, Nancy’s advice is to get a backbone.

Specifically, a poll that asks: “Would you be more likely to vote for a Democratic candidate for Congress who says we should give the new health care law a chance to work and then make changes to it as needed, or a Republican candidate for Congress who says we should repeal the new health care law entirely and then start over?

The results?

Today’s question on Happy Hour on Fox Business at 5 p.m. ET is: IS THE PRESIDENT JUST NOT GOOD AT TAKING CRITICISM?? It’s based on this AP article.

Nancy’s response:

The President already has thick skin about the name calling. I think what he is “troubled by” is the concentration of right wing talk radio that deliberately lies about what he is doing and plays on people’s fears. Take the healthcare debate. In June 2009, the same plan had widespread support across the political spectrum, including a majority of Republicans supporting it. Limbaugh, Beck and the army of right wing radio hosts started the “government takeover, death panel, etc.” rhetoric and in the end, the support was very polarized, 80% of Republicans hated it and 80% of Democrats supported it.

It’s troubling that the truth can get so removed from reality about important public policy. It’s a political winner take all mentality that is so troubling. That’s a break from the great traditions of this country.

Nancy on MSNBC 3-31-10 talking Obama’s oil drilling announcement

By Sharon, 2 April, 2010, No Comment

Nancy on MSNBC talking about President Obama’s surprise decision to support limited offshore drilling. Skinner says that it’s good policy and convenient politics. Most importantly, cap and trade cannot be framed like healthcare. Cap and trade is a free market Republican idea – and a good one at that to spur innovation at the least cost as experienced during the first experiment with it in the Clean Air Act under President H.W. Bush in which it was piloted with utilitities and SO2, and was a huge success.
